ARP-127 is a culture of model cell line U937 infected with human immunodeficiency virus 2 (HIV-2) MS strain and yields high levels of cell-free virus. The cells are 90% HIV-2+ by immunofluorescence. U937 is a promonocyte obtained from a pleural effusion of a two-year-old Caucasian male with diffuse histiocytic lymphoma.
Growth Characteristics: ARP-127 grows in a single-cell suspension with a monocyte-like morphology. Cultures should be split at 1:10 every 3 to 4 days and maintained at 1 × 106 to 2 × 106 cells per mL.
