ARP-1108 is the H9 cell line infected with human immunodeficiency virus 2 (HIV-2) MVP-15132 that was isolated from a German woman who was infected with HIV-2 in 1983 by a Senegalese man. It is the second of two HIV-2 isolates obtained from the same patient. It was isolated in 1988, 15 months after the first isolate was obtained. The infected cells of the first isolate is available as ARP-1107. The H9 cell line was derived from the human T-cell line, HUT 78, as a single clone. Infected cells resemble HIV-1 IIIB-infected H9 cells, with some giant cell formation.
Growth Characteristics: ARP-1108 grows in suspension with a lymphoblast-like morphology. The virus was grown in peripheral blood lymphocytes for four months and then transferred to H9 cells. The virus will grow in Molt-4 or Jurkat cells after 1 to 2 months of adaptation.
Growth Medium: RPMI 1640 supplemented with
10% fetal bovine serum, 30 µM 2-mercaptoethanol, 600 mg per mL L-glutamine, 100 U per mL penicillin and
100 µg per mL streptomycin
ARP-1108 is negative for bacteria and fungi.
Each vial of ARP-1108 contains frozen cells growth medium containing 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Please
